In short don't worry. *Used to*. That advice only applies to very old CRTs whos beem scanning was driven directly from the computers video signals. Getting an MDF wrong with too high or too low a line/refresh rate could burn it out. Any CRT with power saving capabilities is very unlikely to be damaged, as an out of range signal is detected by the monitor and caused it to switch to standby.
