Just noticed this thread.

I've a second hard drive in my Iyonix 5.16 which shows as 112G in
'Free'. It works well, but is now nearly full. I was wondering if I
could replace it with something larger. (I don't use FAT32FS because
when I installed it ages ago it caused problems.)

You can add larger drives to the Iyonix as both the hardware and the
ADFS filing system will support up to 256GB drives. However, there is a
big disadvantage in that only the first 128GB can be accessed via fast
UDMA which can give transfer speeds 50MB/s, the remaining capacity will
be accessed at PIO speeds of around 4MB/s - up to 25x slower.

Don't think that it will be ok until you've filled more than half of a
256GB drive though, as ADFS works by storing the critical map
information in the middle of the drive, and filling outwards (to
minimise disc head movement). You would notice the loss of performance
almost straight away.

Or maybe it's possible to add a third internal drive? But I seem to
remember that the OS won't recognidse a third drive though.

No, you can have up to 4 hard drives in an Iyonix, although the 4th would mean mean sacrificing the internal optical drive.

I would recommend that you use up to 128GB of capacity of any disc (you can use larger discs but just format them to 128GB), and fit 3 or 4 discs. If you need even more capacity I suggest getting a NAS (network attached storage server). These have many advantages such as allowing all machines to share data, more reliability via RAID disc mirroring, and most offer an easier backup strategy using removable/USB drives.

Cheers
