Well, if the drive letter goes MIA, then what's ISA going to do? I've never pulled a drive from a live system to simulate a HDD crash.... Any chance of someone trying this quick on a test system? -----Original Message----- From: Jim Harrison [mailto:jim@xxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Thursday, October 07, 2004 9:43 AM To: [ISAserver.org Discussion List] Subject: [isalist] Re: recommended hardware? http://www.ISAserver.org Frankly, drive mirroring is ok for the OS / pagefile, but IMHO it's a waste of time and $$ for the cache. Unless you're operating a cache device for a submarine (don't laugh; it's been done), it's throwaway data. Anyway... You want to do drive mirroring. Two drives in a RAID 1 will give you the availability you want for the ISA server. Keep that cheap spare IDE drive just laying around to be replaced. Or, spend the extra $100 USD for a hardware IDE RAID controller and skip the nasty Windows RAID that sometimes gets weird if a dynamic disk just drops out of existence.. (hint: NT had this issue and would sometimes mark a hard disk drive as a Removable Disk Drive when the onboard HDD controller would completely fail in a mirror set) ISA = required uptime -----Original Message----- From: Ara Avvali [mailto:ara@xxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Thursday, October 07, 2004 7:57 AM To: [ISAserver.org Discussion List] Subject: [isalist] Re: recommended hardware? http://www.ISAserver.org Ok sir.
