Hi Thomas,

Exactly! That's why, I need to get more copies of 2003! Next months
budget maybe.
It's like when a company continues releasing new OS and software. Many
want you
To upgrade immediately. But, without a lab to test new stuff in many
companies
Will wait until they have to absolutely upgrade. I know that there are
lots out there
With NT4.0!!! Well, I have my 4 copies now for a start and have almost
got most of the
Internal network redone!! Whowho. Me be happy pugumer soon.

Joseph

Hi Joseph,

The problem is that people are confusing "installing IIS" with
"installing the WWW service". The problem is the WWW service, not IIS in
general.

In Windows 2000, you had to install the WWW service, even if you just
wanted the SMTP service.

In Windows Server 2003, you can install the SMTP service without needing
to install the WWW service.

Both the SMTP and WWW services are part of IIS. Its not "IIS" that this
problem, it's the WWW service.

Hi John,

Yup it is. I was pointing out that many documents as they talk about
the message screener never mention that
You have to install IIS but only the SMTP service. And that's not true
for an installation. You need to install IIS and the SMTP service. Then
after installation delete all the folders under the default web site
just to be safe. Then, disable the service. Also, I could not use the
command line stuff to disable socket pooling on the SMTP Service. I had
to install metaedit 2.2 and disable socket pooling that way. The nice
thing about the
Metaedit 2.2 installation was you could backup your metadata on the
services just in case you needed to Restore it.

Thank you,

Joseph

The SMTPsvc is a part of IIS, and therefore needs the core components.
It is not a separate service.
