Have you tested SurfControl SP1 yet?  Curious if that helps...

Anyways, if you think about it, what do you need a default gateway for?
If you're running a single subnet, with all of your necessary resources
"local", the only thing you'd need a default gateway for would be direct
contact with systems outside of your network.  If you disable it, and
they want access to the Internet, then they'd have to use the FWC or
Proxy, so then you'd be able to filter them.
