Sounds great with one last check:

Does the VPN configuration on the laptop configured for split tunnel, or
does the VPN tunnel become the gateway for all traffic?

It is possible with spit tunneling (although I have personally not heard
of it happening) that the laptop can become compromised which would then
compromise the integrity of the VPN tunnel. The way to mitigate that is
to ensure the laptop is properly locked down including a firewall and AV
on it, up to date and active.

Hello John

I use VPN to connect to mail server. Encrypt communication on outlook
2003 is also on and Kerberos/ntlm is used. So it should be fine?

Wireless hotspots = no security.

Use a VPN from the laptop to corporate.

My primary concern is how safe is doing these things on a wireless
hotspot provided by 3rd parties while I am away (coffee shop as example)

Thank you
