created and applied protocols don't open the ports....why?

I have just created and applied a protocol (to be used with Imesh), then
restarted the Microsoft Proxy....but the program(imesh) doesn't connect.
It happens to me with voice in Yahoo and other programs which required the
opening of new ports.
If I try to used the imesh straight to internet without the proxy it
works.
