Actually the issue is that Windows Update requires HTTPS, it seems that ISA
2004 out of the box only allows HTTP to pass through itself, when I created a
simple rule for HTTP for the localhost I was able to get into Windows Update.

Hi Tony,

This is already added to ISA 2004 by default. It is already in my System Policy
Allowed Sites and it still can not get past the Customize or Express features
on WU without producing the same error message I posted. This worked perfectly
before I installed ISA 2004 server, remember this a brand new Dell PE 1850 with
Win2k3 Server SE R2.

Regards,
Andrew

Andrew,

All you need to do is to add *.windowsupdates.com to the Allowed Sites under
the Various folder in your ISA 2004 System Policy Editor. I am sure you know
where the System Policy Editor is located in ISA Server 2004. If not, this is
how you get to it:

Bring up the ISA Server 2004 console.

Click on the Firewall Policy. On the far right pane, click on the Task tab.

Under the System Policy Tasks, click on Edit System Policy.

The System Policy Editor will pop up. Under the Configuration Groups, scroll
down to the Various folder.

Click on the Allowed Sites. Make sure the Enable button is checked on the
right side of the pane.

Click on the To tab.

Highlight on the System Policy Allowed Sites and click on the Edit tab. Beside
the Name box, type in *.windowsupdates.com and click on Add.

Apply the changes and your server should be able to fine with windows updates.

Tony

Subject: [isalist] Windows Updates

How do I get Windows Updates working under ISA 2004 Server? I can open Windows
Updates and click on "customize" however I get the following error message
after a minute or so:

(0x80072EE2)

This is a brand new Dell PE 1850 running Windows 2003 Server SE R2, and ISA
2004 SP2. I have never really been able to get Windows Updates working past the
customize button on any box I have configured. I have even searched through the
ISA Help on Windows Update and Updates and not found anything explaining it, I
have even looked on Google.ca and have not found anything either.

I have tired setting up a rule for argument sake, DNS, HTTP, HTTPS for the ISA
server (allow access) and it still produces the same error.

Lastly I have gone into network settings on ISA and reconfigured the server as
an edge server getting it access to the net. ... uhm and it no workie. :(

I can access www.microsoft.com, yA, and the initial page to Windows Updates,
Ya, but nothing over and above that. Boo!

Regards,

Andrew
