It was simple - a black screen with white text, and easy commands to type in. And it was fast!!! Even on a 286!! I always recall installing Win98 on my 1st 386 pc - My god did you notice the degradation in performance. 3 seconds to open the start menu, and 4 to open the programs!! And took forever to shutdown. Mind you I was only running 4mb of Memory - Yet 3.11 ran like the clappers on it :) I think they called it a GUI in Win98!!
