Hi Mark,

LOL! I've had the opposite problem most of my life, but my real
politician wife is teaching me the merits of tempered responses :-)

You can install a DHCP server and a DNS server on the firewall. However,
a caching only DNS server is the best choice. If you need DNS for
internal network resolution, then put that internal DNS on a separate
machine.

You should be a politician Thomas :-).

It's a small network, therefore DHCP is not a necessity.
I believe things run better with a local DNS server, right ?

I don't want to have a ton of extras running, but I like DHCP and DNS
for
sure..

I am looking for recommendations from those who have 2003 running.

Thanks

Mark S

Hi Mark,

To answer #2, always consider your goals and current infrastructure
first. Then ask and answer the question.

Ok, I did the nuke and pave and thought to myself, "Self, what a better
way
to spend a Sunday than to curse over a fresh o/s install"

So here we are, being smart ( yeah ! right) I thought I should put out
the
questions..
1) what do I need to know, other than to read Thomas's articles. ?
2) What services do I need to run on windows server, i.e.. DNS, DHCP
etc.
and when to install and configure ?
3) What not to do ?

Thanks in advance,

Mark S
