He was also mentioning that he wanted to connect to two ISPs with that
box, which is why he singled out that model.  This is for an apartment
building, so it would get light to medium usage.  He's trying to replace
a Cisco 1800 that he could never get working right (no surprise).  

I've been trying to talk him into a full-fledge network merging all of
his buildings, he's a bit hesitant to make the move though...

So, you're ranking the Watchguard down there in the gutter with the PIX?

Hi Dan,

For people going on the cheap so that they don't want to invest in an
ISA or Check Point, then a Dlink works fine for them:

If you need a remote access VPN server, you can couple it up with a
unihomed Windows VPN server located behind the device and "port forward"
the connections.

It ain't no ISA firewall, but for those going on the low end, it's a lot
smarter than going with Watchguard or PIX.
