We actually do have a real split DNS, with a .org zone. We use it for a
few DNS entries. What would I need to put into it to make this work?
It's got an entry for mail.afsc.org that points to the internal address,
as well as an entry for delta.afsc.org (the name of our Exchange server
is delta.afsc.local) that also points to the internal address.

Why not just create a new zone for your .org in AD and skip the whole
hosts thing??
