I just installed this product. I read in the readme.doc that when you
schedule for the updates of the category list, it will disable Internet
access. You might want to check when you have the update scheduled. I
just experienced this problem and had to reboot my ISA server to clear
it. I look forward to anymore information 'tech support' has to offer
also. Thanks.

You can adjust the order of the categories that SC actually
searches...however ive done that and it doesn't seem to have any impact.

Looks like SS is the problem then!
But there must be some way of optimising the screening of content.
SS doesn't scan the entire cache does it? If it does, perhaps this is
why is takes so long!

Yes...Nav 7.5 is installed on that system. However as part of the
troubleshooting yesterday...it was disabled and we still had the same
performance degradation.

The only thing that impacted the browsing speed was disabling
SurfControl.

Just an afterthought, but do you also scan web content for virus's
aswell?
Could this also have an impact?

Yes...caching is enabled. 4GB worth of cache is allocated to ISA.

Box has 36GB worth of disk space setup in Raid5 ~3 18GB disks~

I think you may be on the right track there with the Surf control doing
a check on the content.

What about the Proxy cache, is it big enough?

Also do you cache any content at all, even dynamic?

Welp...to add my info.

250 web users. ISA Enterprise on Win2k Server ~Dell 2450 Dual 1000/2GB

ram~

Server directly connected to internet via T1. Users have Lan 100M/wan
512k access to ISA as proxy.

Web access was perfect and brisk prior to installing Surfcontrol. Now
there is a 30 to 45second delay in browsing ANY website. During the
delay..the progress bar goes nearly all the way across the screen...then

the page pops up and beings to load quickly.

I don't believe it's the HTTP traffic that's slow...I fear its
SurfControls searching for what category the website is in that's the
problem.

Hmmm?
I have been thinking of using superscout myself.

You say that it slows down the speed at which your users get access to
the Internet via your LAN.

What is the setup of your LAN (how many servers, what kind (W2K Server,
Advanced, SBS 2000, or Back Office 2000 Server?)
What is the Spec of the server which is running ISA Server (CPU(s), RAM,

Hard Disks (how many))?
