Hi Bret,

The answer is yes to both. However, it's the level of hit you take.
There is no universal scale, so its hard to put a number or value on it.
However, AFAIC, nothing belongs on the firewall except software designed
to integrate with the firewall's function. SQL logging is always going
to create a performance hit, but you've got a box that would easily
handle thousands over users, so you're in pretty good shape.

Subject: [isalist] SqlServer SurfControl and ISA

http://www.ISAserver.org

I am looking for opinions on configuring an ISA Server that will also be
running SurfControl for ISA using SQL Server to support it.

The hardware is a Compaq DL360 with dual 1.2 GHz processors, 1 GB RAM,
and
2 mirrored SCSI drives. We will be supporting approximately 125 users
for
simple internet access.

My main question is, do we risk losing a level of security or
performance
by running SQL Server on the ISA box? Or should we use another internal
SQL Server to support SurfControl?

All thoughts appreciated.
