So the main reason for different host names is so that you can use the
priorities?  And, since the MX records are tied to an A record, we have
to create different A records to have multiple MX entries?  Sorry, just
trying to get this straight so I can explain it to others.

Hi Dan,

There's no problem with it, but you don't fully leverage the built-in
"failover" capabilities provided by MX records. If the MTA sending to
your domain can't connect with the most preferred server (one with the
lowest preference number), then it will try those will lower preferences
before giving up.
