The FWC can and does "update" the proxy settings if you have "Enable Web
browser automatic configuration" in the FWC "Web Browser" tab.
Take a look in the IE "LAN settings"; you'll see if IE is acting as a
web proxy...
Also, take a look in the ISA logs to see if it's ISA or something else
causing you these problems.

Hi Jim,

We are not using any plug-ins. What could have been modified in IE?
Thanks!

Jeb

What plug-ins are you using?
There are three that cause the workaround to fail:
- Web Trends
- Surf Control
- BurstTek

..also note that the ISA 2004 Firewall Client can modify the IE settings
so that it's still a web proxy client.

I am running ISA 2004 on Windows 2003. My clients are set up as firewall
clients. I have read almost all of the threads on Windows Update.
Followed
Jims article on 9/4/2004 "Windows Update v5 Issues and Workarounds",
read
Tom's article on "Fix the Windows Update Problem for Web Proxy Clients".
I'm not sure this applies since I am set up as a firewall client but I
did
it anyway. Applied patches from KB867801, KB871260 and KB842773. From
the
Express Install page my updates are still failing. Hopefully I'm missing
something simple. Thanks for your help guys! (and Gals!)
