The ISA Server host is internally configured to pass Web traffic to a Web filter. The Web filter then checks the URL and passes back a Yea or Nay to ISA. ** what web filter? What happens is: If the site should be blocked, e.g. www.whitehouse.com, the user gets a blocked screen as designed. If the site should not be blocked, e.g. www.google.com, the user gets an HTTTP 404, "The Page cannot be found." Furthermore, the URL in the address box now reads "www.www.google.com.com". This URL is also in the body ** That's IE trying to perform its default search technique; prepending www. and appending .com of the error page. Logs from the web filter show that: ISA passes www.google.com to the web filter which returns "Category Not Blocked" ISA passes the msn search page to the web filter which again returns "Category Not Blocked". When I look at Alerts in ISA Management, I see Service started and seconds later Service initialization failure. The Services window shows that "Microsoft ISA Server Control" is Started. If I bounce ISA Control: ISA Management, Alerts, shows "Service started" , i.e.--no Service initialization failure, but I get an IE "Cannot find server or DNS error" for any site that I try to access. Also, if I reset Lan Settings to port 80 on the default gateway, IE works fine. TIA.
