You're absolutely correct.
nslookup for starblazer.tzo.com results in 64.90.59.34, but nslookup for
returns taca-1.august.net for 64.90.59.34.

So long as there is a PTR record that I don't specifically block, you're ok.
The ones I refuse are the non-resolving or blocked names / IPs.

Hi Jim,

I create my own PTR records, but I'm not authoritative for this IP
address block, so the ISP's name network number names show up in the
reverse lookup.

Do you handle your own PTR records?
I asked and was granted by my ISP...

Hi John,

I can send to AOL and Earthlink and other numbskulls who do reverse DNS
lookups. What is my secret?

Thanks!

The reverse lookup needs to be done on the DNS server that is
authoritive for the IP address. Most of the time, this is the ISP.
However, sometimes the ISP will delegate authority for those IP
addresses to the client.

Go here to test:

Also, see this:

http://www.dnsstuff.com/info/revdns.htm

Not having a PTR record is a violation of the RFCs. If you are going to
be using a mail server on the Internet, you must understand and play by
the rules.

And yes, you will not be able to send to AOL without a PTR record, as
well as many smaller domains.
