One could do it but I wouldn't recommend it to my clients because of the
problem with the server boot up order. If for some reason you need to
reboot the main SBS server you first would have to shutdown the isa-only
SBS server, reboot the main SBS, then once it's up bring up the isa-only
SBS server. Given the frequency of updates these days I would find this
more annoying than the extra cost.

Hi Amy,

So its sounds like the best price proposition for the customer is to by
a second SBS license and integrated that second SBS machine into the
existing domain by making it a member server. In that way you can use
the second SBS machine as your ISA Server? That would be less expensive
than a Windows 2000 and ISA Server Standard Edition license.

Thanks!
Tom

Actually if there is another domain controller present SBS will surpress
itself into member server mode. I use this all the time when I'm
installing a new SBS server into an old SBS environment. I boot up the
server I want to be the "real" SBS server, then I boot up the one I want
to be the member server and they behave. However, if the old SBS server
gets booted up first or it doesn't detect another domain controller it
will take up the task. As a long term solution this could get to be
annoying.
