Wow... complex DNS scheme... slick solution indeed if you can't have a public static IP... Hmmm... server publishing rule is correct... Maybe the ISA Services have to be restarted each time the IP address changes? Look on the logs... firewall & IP... turn on the RULE1 & RULE2 entries... see where requests from the outside are going and who's blocking them. -----Original Message----- From: Daniel L. It's a really slick solution (in my opinion). There's a service that runs in the background on the ISA machine and detects if the IP address has changed. If so, it contacts the no-ip server and updates with the new address. The domain it provides is from the no-ip servers, like myname.no-ip.org So this gives me a simple and consistent external interface for a small web/mail server for private use. In theory. It's been working great for VPN use - of course at an unbelievably slow speed. Now if I can just get the publishing to work . . . I have an SMTP Server rule that says: Enabled IP Address of Internal Server: 192.168.0.2 External IP Address on ISA Server: whatever it is now. Mapped Server Protocol: SMTP Server Applies to: Any request I don't see any open port 25 in netstat. -----Original Message----- From: Alfonso Lopez de Ayala [mailto:alopezdeayala@xxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Tuesday, October 08, 2002 12:38 PM To: [ISAserver.org Discussion List] Subject: [isalist] RE: Publishing Servers http://www.ISAserver.org Ok... can you tell me how that no-ip.com works... is there a DNS server that dynamically changes each time the address is changed? Even in that case there would be a problem since most Internet DNS servers cache for a long time (24-48 hrs) In any case... how's the SMTP Publishing Rule configured? What do you see in the ISA IP logs? -----Original Message----- From: Daniel L. Still trying to get this stuff to work . . . -----Original Message----- From: Alfonso Lopez de Ayala [mailto:alopezdeayala@xxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Tuesday, October 08, 2002 11:39 AM To: [ISAserver.org Discussion List] Subject: [isalist] RE: Publishing Servers http://www.ISAserver.org How will the external clients know the IP address of the server to connect to if it changes every time? They would have to configure their settings each time (after giving you a call ans ask: "what is TODAY'S IP address for the server?"). In any case you can use BOTH IP Packet Filters or Publishing Rules. None are limiting in the aspects you mention. A.- -----Original Message----- From: Daniel L. I still don't understand. Question #1: Since I'm connecting the internet using a dial-up w/out a static IP, I do not have a consistent external IP address. Therefore, I can't use the server publishing rules and must use IP Filters. Correct? Question #2: Please give an example of how to publish an internal server via IP Filters, given: ISA Server - 192.168.0.1 SMTP Server/Exchange/Web Server - 192.168.0.2 I've tried and just can't get it to work.
