MS Certificates free forever, and better control.

What advantages are there to using 3rd party certificates?

Free SSL certificates good for 1 year. After the first year you have to
pay.

I have been using one for months with OWA and SSL and it works fine.

I can provide more details if you want on how to implement the
certificate if you have enver done so. There is nothing special with the
FreeSSL certificate though.

Also, do not use the Web Server publishing rules to publish SSL, use the
Server Publishing Rule and select HTTPS protocol. I could not get it to
work with the Web Server Publishing.

Either, but if you use your own you have to get your users to accept
untrusted certificates from their home pcs for you self generated
certificate. Verisign is on the list of pretrusted certs already in the
list in IE.

Bill, this is something I am looking at doing as well, but want to
enforce SSL through OWA. Can I use Certificate Server for this or do I
need an authentic 3rd party cert from Verisign etc?

Your answer will define my weekend!

Cheers,
Mike

Try Publishing the Server on the web server publishing and use OWA. It
work much nicer.

I have this very strange problem with publishing an Exchange server
behind
ISAServer.
I use the "Secure Mail Server" publishing wizard to publish my Exchange
server. Everything works fine with respect to POP/SMTP but Outlook
clients
connecting to my server can only resolve their mailbox name (when they
setup
their profile). When they launch Outlook it fails to connect to the
server.
I know it can connect since it properly resolves the name and sets up
the
profile.
