Hi Aman,
OK, there you go. Like I said, some applications don't work right with
Web Proxies. And like Shawn said, some applications don't work with
authenticating proxies. So, when you put those two together, Interdev
doesn't work :)
So, you're solution to use the Firewall client solves all the problems
because authentication is transparent and automatic for the Firewall
client. That's just one of the reasons why I'm a big fan of the Firewall
client!

I tried that and it did not.. it only takes proxy settings if defined
manually in IE. But EVEN if you do so, it wont take the
authentication....

You got it! Exactly.
Make sure the Web Proxy clients are configured to use the
autoconfiguration script, or autoconfigure them using wpad and
autodiscovery. That way the Web Proxy clients will be able to pull the
information from the ISA firewall they need for Direct Access.

I like direct access too ;)
But as I said then I will have to configure proxy settings manually on
client machines. (which is not what I think is best)
I have dozens of developers and going to their machines is pain. If this
direct access would have worked with the auto config file that would
have
been cool. But Interdev !!!!
Right now, Firewall client solved it. What else can I ask for :)

InterDev supports manual proxy settings (Tools | Otions | Projects) but
not authenticated proxy. You have to configure sites for open access
for InterDev to work. Or get something cool like WebScarab to sit on
your InterDev workstation and add a proxy authorization header into the
request :)

Some apps don't work properly as Web Proxy clients -- I believe Visual
Interdev is one of them. Disable the Web Proxy client config when using
that config, or configure the required sites for Direct Access.
Also, do you have a split DNS in place? Or are the clients looping back
through the ISA firewall to access internal network resources?

Something to add
1)MS Visual Interdev does not seem to pick the settings from the
automatic
configuration script. (proxy client)
2)It takes the manual proxy settings if specified in IE, but cannot
authenticate to ISA using integrated authentication. Also for basic
authentication, it does not prompt for username and passwd. Fails with
an
error.
3)if you remove secureNAT client( remove default gateway) ...everything
is
solved with firewall and proxy client.
- Interdev works great with Firewall client settings. Only autoscript is
enabled in proxy settings.
- internal IPs and external IPs and domain names work for internal web
sites.
- browsing is much faster.
A lot of hit and trial involved.
A question .. what is the order of clients taken up, if it configured as
all
three - securenat , proxy and firewall ... does the client try for proxy
settings, if not found tries for securenat, if not found tries for
firewall
client ?? or the order is different. I am confused as removing securenat
client solved most of the issues I was facing till now .

I am facing an issue,
When in IE I use proxy server settings . like manually specify the ISA
server and the port, My INTERNAL sites work well with the public IP and

name. But When I use the automatic configuration script, then IE doesn't
show the internal sites with public IP or site name. it works only with
local IP then.
How can I fix this. ??
Shouldn't using the script give same functionality as using the proxy

name manually ?
