hi,
        Name resolutiion is taking place using wins. Could u pls tell me
what are all the ports to open for accessing a mail behind the firewall.

I found that adding the remote Exchange server's IP address to the LAT also
helps. (In addition to having the necessary protocols correctly defined).

You also need to be able to resolve the remote Exchange server's NetBIOS
name from the client - with WINS or a HOSTS file. If it works with ISA is
not part of the equation, you probably already have name resolution taken
care of.

hi,
    Exchange server is outside the firewall. So whats the point in
installing a firewall client in the exchange server. Firewall client is only
for machines behind the firewall, i believe.

I had this problem in my company!!! To solve I created the rules in my Isa 
box and installed the Firewall client in the Exchange Server.
