Hi Mark,

Let us know what happens. IIRC, Tiago had similar problems.

Well, well well.
Guess what else I added to the puzzle just after the MB failure...
A brand new Linksys 8 port switch. EZXS88W.

I was going to reboot the switch once to see if it had any affect, I
will try that again.
It's cycle is about a week.

Thanks,
I will return the switch if that proves to be the problem.

        Hi Mark,

Have you considered the switchs that the ISA firewall and the
rest of the network have in common? I never had problems with switches
until I recently got a Linksys 8 port 10/100 workgroup switch. Get this:
I have ISA firewalls (both 2000 and 2004) that have run for over 6
months, but I've had to "reboot" this dumb switch about once a week
(pull out the power plug and plug back in). In fact, my DC had been
running for almost a year before our move without a reboot (don't
lecture me about patching :-)

Of course, that's what I get for violating my principle of "The
only way Cisco will ever get any money from me is by prying it from my
cold, dead hands". Cisco bought Linksys, which probably explains the
problem. Sooner or later I'll go to Fry's and get a Dlink.

I am troubled by my internal LAN going down.
It seems that every so often I will return to find the LAN down.
Both my Laptop and Server NICs are running ok (appears to be),
but the communication across the network falls flat on it's face.
I am using the exact same NIC's in my Server as before my AMD
motherboard smoked one of the main power transistors in the power stage.

I have now ( three weeks ago) dug out an old PIII 677 MB and
CPU.
I am using Windows 2003 std edition, along with IAS2004 (which
now that I am accustomed to it, I love it).
I have swapped previous known good NICs and had them fail after
a period of time.
        So, any ideas ?
I may swap the power supplies as it may have caused the AMD MB
to smoke or it was damaged in the failure.

You may reply offlist if you wish.

        Thanks,
        Mark S
