Phil,

If you're talking about Remote Assistance on XP, that doesn't use port
135.  It uses port 3389.

On a side note, port 135 is the RPC end-point mapper. When a client
connects to a "server" on port 135, additional ports (high ports/user
ports [1025+] are negotiated and used. Unless you manually specify a
set range of ports to be used for this, the ports negotiated are dynamic
and can range anywhere from 1025 to 65535.

You can set this range of ports manually through the following Registry
key or by using dcomcnfg -> Component Services -> Computers -> My
Computer -> Properties -> Default Protocols Tabbed Page ->
Connection-oriented TCP/IP -> Properties.

I'm trying to find some information on how to configure the firewall to
allow the "offer remote assisatnce" through which is port 135. I'm
trying
to reach other sites within the same company but located outside of our
firewall and the request will be transferred out onto our VPN connection
and has to leave through the firewall to reach other locations

can anyone advise

Many Thanks
