Hi Greg,

That would be REALLY COOL. But I think that Microsoft doesn't want to step
on the Akonix L7 solution.

Hi Anthony,

I understand, I was making a sort of bad joke :)

In fact, I have asked for this feature for ISA Server 2004, but
apparently
there wasn't enough demand for them to include it in the product. I
think
that an NNTP application filter that allows you enforce NNTP commands,
block
attachments and cache content would be neat, but I haven't seen anyone
else
other than you ask for something like this.
Same goes for IMAP4 -- I think an application filter for IMAP4 would
help
security, but I've never heard anyone else mention this one either.
:(

Hi Tom,

Yes and no. I'm attempting to get a local cache of "two" news servers
(they're the same server, just segregated by login) that we have
multiple staff connecting to on a (would be more regular, but speed etc)
basis.

At ~5c/mb (we negotiated on the "standard" 10-18c/mb) its still pricey
to have 5-10 users downloading the same data, and resetting the news
clients will suck almost a Gb of data which is costly and slow (the US
based server gives us about 30k/sec).

What I'm attempting to do is have a service that user facing appears to
be the news server(s) that they require access to, and outward facing
(the real NNTP server) appearing as if it was a newsreader *client*.

As far as I can tell DNews is a suitable piece of software for this, but
I haven't been happy with its configuration (less than robust IMO) in
addition to the fact that it wouldn't talk to two news servers that
required authentication.

As stated, I can't get a feed established, so need to do it this way.
I'd love a transport tool that fed the exchange server, but at this
point I'll be happy with something that will work and doesn't require
frequent interaction.

Anthony.
