And actually, I never said anything about "abandoning" 3389-- Just to
refresh your memory, old man, you were saying how changing the listening
port for services had no value as any virus worth its salt (or some such
reference) could easily scan ports for the vulnerable service. I
pointed
out that while that is possible, it is just not done in the real world.
While changing the listen port may not help against a directed attack,
it
certainly helps against worm/noise/casual traffic.
And if memory serves Squidward, it was just after that thread that the
TS
vulnerability was discovered. I wasn't worried about anything, of
course,
as I had moved TS to a different port. <G>

Actually, Timmy said that and started a joke that got the whole world
laughing.
When you specify the connection IP or hostname, you simply append
:<port> to it. For instance, when you want to connect to a 1024x768
console on amysbox using port 1234, you use:
mstsc /w:1024 /h:768 /console /v:amysbox:1234

A while back Jim announced that we should abandon port 3389 and choose a
different one. It's been haunting me lately. So I should probably get to
it. I use remote desktops from the windows 2003 admin pack. I love being
able to change channels from one client to another. If I abandon 3389
how to I tell the remote desktop tool to use the new port? Or do I need
to start using a different tool and if so, which one?
