It doesn't look like an appliance but it behaves like one. It's a UTM. UTM do a particular set of features. If you want something outside of the feature set then you use something else. I certainly wouldn't consider this a drawback on TMG, it's really a feature of any UTM appliance. If you want infinite flexibility then you don't buy UTM devices. Headlines are headlines and it's the state of things that if you speak negatively about Microsoft products you'll get more readers. When you have more readers you live on to write another day. The article is much more positive than negative but one would never know that from the headline.
