Hi Ahmed,

Cause that is how ISA works. You can edit the Registry to change the
default behavior.

But why is it ignoring the TTL or not obeying it ??

The default isn't zero.
This is ISA's "local" name resolution cache.
The problem is that it doesn't obey record TTL.

Jim,

It seems to be working fine now. I don't yet understand why was this
setting making this problem. Is the default setting while installing ISA
in this registry key is Zero, if so then how it became this large number
??

Your comments is highly appreciated.

Thanks and have a nice day,

Ahmed

You might want to try reducing or eliminating your ISA DNS cache.
This article discusses how to do that:

Good morning All,

I re-checked my DNS forwaders on my DNS Server and they are correct
(pointing to our ISP), I believe the problem is the internet DNS
resolution through ISA. Please advice. this is very irritating problem.
Sometimes I can't open any sub pages from yahoo, Microsoft & NAI and
then after a couple of hours they are opened fine and another set of
pages is down.

This morning I tried to open a normal page and here is what I get.

Ahmed,

You mention checking the nic DNS addresses on the ISA server but what
about the DNS forwarders on your DNS server? This is where I found the
problem to be.

Amy,

I believe I have the same problem like yours but when I checked the DNS
settings (Internal NIC and External NIC) on the ISA Server (My Network
Places), I found them correct and pointing to our ISP. Thats really
confusing !!

Please advice.

Thanks and have a nice day,

Ahmed,

I had a similar problem and finally found the problem last night.
Somehow, someway, my DNS forwarders were changed to addresses that
apparently don't exist or at least don't respond to ping. I changed them
back to the DNS provided by my ISP and all is working now.

The symptoms were that Internet access was working for many websites for
not for others. In particular support.microsoft.com, www.symantec.com,
live update and www.antivirus.com were not accessible while www.msn.com
and www.yahoo.com were. I thought I was looking for a virus but it
turned out to be the DNS forwarders.

I am left to wonder how the DNS forwarders got changed in the first
place though.

WHat have you found in the web proxy logs for those failing requests?

No, I meant ISA hotfix / SP level, but that's good to know, too.
You need to operate with one client type to that you know where to look
for the log entries.
What are the sc-result codes in the failed attempts?

Jim,

The ISA Server is Win2k SP4

This is happening whether I am connecting with Web Proxy client or
firewall client. If you checked the same page after another 10
min it will open and other pages will close. This is really odd.

Please advice.

You should check your web proxy logs to see what pages aren't loading.
You'll have to se this infoemation to find a common point in those
requests.
What hotfix, SP level are you operating with?

Hello All,

We are having a strange problem on our ISA Server, some Web pages are
opened and the others are not I cleared the cache and
restarted ISA several times but still the same problem. For example when
you open the Internet explorer and try to open Yahoo, it
opens fine but some shortcuts inside the main page are not opening. Some
very famous web pages are not opening.

Please advice.
