After discussing with the Technical Manager at our ISP we finally got it up
and running! I told him about this knowledgebase article and the rest of our
discussion and then he came up with a suggestion: Turn of "Microsoft
integrated autentication" on the IIS, he did so and everything worked
superb! The difference we could observe on our side was that the logon popup
did not ask for domain any more. I suppose we now send the password in clear
text, but... :-)

Thanks a lot for your assistance!

It's certainly worth a try..
As far as the credentials settings on ISA, those only apply to using ISA
with an authenticating upstream proxy.
Does that fit your scenario?

I've found a knowledgebase article at Microsoft with interesting stuff:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q237960
<http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q237960>

This is very similar to our problems with ISAserver. Any idea what we could
try?

I am seeing a login popup when trying to connect to the site. BTW: Is it
possible to make the logs even more detailed? I thought perhaps there was
some credentials settings on ISA sine proxy by name means acting on behalf
of someone else... :-)

Thank you very much for your help, hopefully you can help us figure out
this. :-)

Actually, if the ISA logs show "anonymous", it's because FP isn't sending
any credentials. Are you not seeing a popup?
ISA shouldn't hold any credentials, BTW; that's a huge security hole...

Now I guess we're on the right track! I can see that the error messages say
cs-username is anonymous, shouldn't it be the username I have at my ISP? At
least I'm asked about username and password (and domain) in FP (and I've
tried to adjust settings to ask for username and password, not to use
currently logged on user/password). On the ISAserver I'm not able to
configure any use of username/password, but in my eyes it seems like
ISAserver is not sending the appropriate username/password to my ISP...

Are you still getting the same error messages?
Looking back at your logs, you're getting "403" and "12209", both of which
are "you must authenticate" messages.
Have you entered appropriate credentials in the FP proxy settings?

Now I've installed SP1 as well but still I'm unable to run FrontPage 2002
through the ISAserver (same messages as before)... :-(

Any idea where to find more information about this?

Grab hotfix 68; I believe it also contains the fix.

Thanks a lot for your answer Jim. Now I've tried to do as indicated in
Q304340, but unfortunately SP1 is withdrawn from the scene so I was only
able to edit the registry.

Anyway, the logfiles are still filled with these messages:
http://www.web.com/_vti_bin/_vti_aut/author.dll
<http://www.web.com/_vti_bin/_vti_aut/author.dll> - 12209

Any other idea (or perhaps someone who could mail me SP1 for ISAserver)?
