What you're missing is a perspective beyond "one IP per ISP". Binding multiple IPs to an interface has nothing whatsoever to do with redundancy or load balancing. Server publishing, multiple SSL sites - there are any number of reasons to do this. ------------------------------------------------------ Jim Harrison MCP(NT4, W2K), A+, Network+, PCG http://isaserver.org/Jim_Harrison/ http://isatools.org Read the help / books / articles! ------------------------------------------------------- ________________________________________ From: Ball, Dan [mailto:DBall@xxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Tuesday, September 27, 2005 15:26 To: [ISAserver.org Discussion List] Subject: [isalist] RE: ISA2004 newbie here. ISA2004 as a router? http://www.ISAserver.org Yep, that pretty much summarizes it! Although, could someone please clarify what the benefits are of multiple "public" IPs is if you bind them all to the same card and they're all supplied by the same provider? It seems like an unnecessary redundancy. If the provider goes down, you lose all of them anyways, and since you can only use one default gateway, the others can't really be used anyways... ISA2004 as a router? http://www.ISAserver.org Hooray Jim. Nice to have such a crystal clear short statement that somehow got lost in the midst of all the discussion on this topic! ________________________________________ From: Jim Harrison [mailto:Jim@xxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Tuesday, September 27, 2005 1:10 PM To: [ISAserver.org Discussion List] Subject: [isalist] RE: ISA2004 newbie here. ISA2004 as a router? http://www.ISAserver.org No, it doesn't. Multiple IPs from a single connection provider is still only a single ISP.
