Dude, they were trying to be helpful. It also doesn't hurt that they were right. You purported yourself to be an ISA newbie - if that is true, maybe you should listen to those who have been acknowledged as experts with it for quite some time when they tell you there is a better way (or a more secure one). And, since you felt the need to wave red flags in your 'closing argument' ... for those old enough to remember what this means ... <plonk>. (Flame away, I'll never notice it). There are quite a few reasons why I asked the question the way I did. I wanted suggestions about HOW to do something, and received deprecating comments about WHY I was doing something. If you get off your soapboxes long enough you might see that in some cases, the goal is to make the best out of a bad situation. Sometimes we can't build the "perfect" solution. Better yet, should my original posting have included comments like "why anyone would try to build a security device on top of the Windows operating system is beyond me, but..." or "while I personally would be using a hardware firewall, this client is using Windows ISA, running on top of an OS that I wouldn't use in a production environment if my life depended on it." Try to be a little more helpful next time... ------------------------------------------------------ List Archives: http://www.webelists.com/cgi/lyris.pl?enter=isalist ISA Server Newsletter: http://www.isaserver.org/pages/newsletter.asp ISA Server FAQ: http://www.isaserver.org/pages/larticle.asp?type=FAQ ------------------------------------------------------ Other Internet Software Marketing Sites: World of Windows Networking: http://www.windowsnetworking.com Leading Network Software Directory: http://www.serverfiles.com No.1 Exchange Server Resource Site: http://www.msexchange.org Windows Security Resource Site: http://www.windowsecurity.com/ Network Security Library: http://www.secinf.net/ Windows 2000/NT Fax Solutions: http://www.ntfaxfaq.com ------------------------------------------------------ You are currently subscribed to this ISAserver.org Discussion List as: pen@xxxxxxxxx To unsubscribe visit http://www.webelists.com/cgi/lyris.pl?enter=isalist Report abuse to listadmin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
