Non-braggin rights goes with my home Isa is a 166Mhz Intel, with 128MB
RAM, two linksys NICS and software mirror 4GB SCSI Segate HD. Hosting
IIS 5.0 on a 133Mhz Intel, with 128MB RAM, one linksys NIC and software
mirror 160GB IDE Maxtor HD. Serving the same amount as Jim, but zero
downtime.

Gotcha beat; my home ISA is a 500MHz AMD K6-2 with 256MB RAM, two 3Com
NICs and a 4GB SCSI HD. Granted, I only serve 4-6 people (depending on
visitors), but as you said; zero downtime.

Our ISA server had built in NICS. I used the cool feature of W2K to
disable a NIC without having to remove it. But, seriously, I think ISA
is solid product. One of our four ISA boxes is an old 500 Mhz AMD with
a 20 Gig SCSI disk and 320 Mb Ram. Originally built as a test machine we
just started using it as a production server for Central Office having
about 100 users. Even with this "commodity" hardware the performance is
fine and the downtime has been nonexistent.

Personally i find Network cards in an iSA box a real pain in the bum. I
try to leave them out if i can or at least disable them.

HI Mike,
Earlier once i had the same problem of rebooting. But believe me
it was a hardware fault in ISA box. I am sure that u need to check ur
hardware ( mostly Memory chips, try disabling and enabling N/w cards).
ISA is just fine and a true corporate firewall. Just chk ur hardware it
should be fine.

Vinay.

Hello,

This is really getting on my nerves in a major way.

About 2-3 times per day (sometimes more), our ISA Box reboots - and all
the Event Viewer can tell us, is that the "System Shutdown Unexpectedly"
(well no duh) - and there is nothing else of any value whatsoever, that
tells us what it may have been.

This is totally unacceptable - and I need to get to the bottom of it.
Honestly - I've installed about 6 ISA Boxes - in several different
corporate environments - and I am quickly losing confidence in ISA
Server - as it just does not run like a true corporate firewall should.
In every case, we install the software in a Windows 2000 domain
environment, on ultra-quality Servers, SP1 & FP1, Windows 2000 SPx (the
latest), etc. We are always patched with the latest software upgrades,
and I own every ISA Book written (so needless to say, I do my homework).
What could this be?

ISA Server may be wonderful - but it's only as good as the Machine, and
Operating System that it runs on top of. Maybe it's time to purchase an
Internet Appliance for this mission critical task - as I can't bank my
life on something that is unreliable.

Is ISA Server truly a corporate solution??? Are all of you having good
luck in general with the Software?

I searched the Infobase on MS's site - and it comes back with NOTHING
regarding random reboots, and other such topics. Is there anything I
can check, that can narrow down why this is happening to us? Is it an
attack potentially?

I would appreciate any information that could help us out.

Thanks,

Mike
