Help for Exchange Server

Hello All,
I m new to this grp, and Novice to work on Exchange
Server.
I wud like to know:
1. What is the difference between Microsoft Exchange
Server 5.5 and 2000??
2. Which one I shd use??
3. Any links or study material from where I can study,
how to add/delete/modify contacts/task/calendar using
any own application(Not legacy)??
4. From where I can get the APIs to do all above
things??
Looking forward for help from all xperienced people of
this list.
