You right Scott,I was talking about the Native Content File ("Streaming file", ending in the .stm) -----Original Message----- From: Moore, Scott A. Exchange saves the message in the format from which the client created it. This saves overhead of the ESE of having to reformat messages as they go into the stores. E.G. If you connect to Exchange using OWA, Exchange will save the email in html because that is the format it was created in. To add to this point, if the message is created in SMTP, HTTP, or NNTP format, it will be stored in the .stm (streaming) store. If the message is created in RTF from the MAPI client, it will be saved in RTF format and stored in the .edb (Exchange Database format) store. I don't see under listing 5 to be a strong argument to switch to plain text, since the past month I haven't received any messages above 30KB and even that is small. There are a lot of advantages to use html format that are being used besides emailing to this formum. I am running Exchange 2000 (its native format is HTML) and utilized its multimedia features from time to time. To switch back and forth from html to text does sound favoritable only because I am taking advandtage of the technology that I have. This might be a good indication of where plain text might be showing its signs of being old technology, the phasing out of the old to the new. I understand there are a lot of legacy mailing systems that do not support it but that is why isaserver.org has a webbase (html) forum to support thoses systems. When posting to a list or forum, please comply with the following "rules:" 1. Turn off Return Receipt Requests. 2. Please search the archives and FAQ. 3. Do not add attachments unless specifically asked to do so. 4. Only add .zip or .txt attachments. Others waste bandwidth and are not necessary. 5. Do not post in html format. The size of a message in HTML is a lot larger than that of plain text. This is a problem for those on dial-up and those with PDAs. 6. Understand what it is you want to ask, and visit: http://www.tuxedo.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html 7. Delete unnecessary text when quoting or replying to a post. It is wasting bandwidth. 8. Do not use a "DIGITAL SECURITY Signature". It wastes bandwidth and causes problems to some users, like those with PDAs. 9. Please use a subject line that will attract attention to your problem and offers an insight of what asking about. (Example, a subject line of "Help" will be ignored.) 10. If you change the topic or direction thereof, change the subject line. 11. If you want a good answer, provide good details. 12. Please allow time for people to respond to your post. We are working too. Plus, some lists are known to be slow to post. 13. Please do not include lines of company/private legal disclaimer. You are sending to a list. It is going to be resent to everyone on that list. This translates into no longer being a private or confidential message. Also, some lists are archived and have been known to show up on Google searches. 14. Do not include any line as part of a message "signature" like, "If you have received this communication in error..." 15. If your post is criticized, please reread your original post you sent along with the reply and take a few minutes to think about them before snapping out your reply. 16. Do not initiate a flame against others. It is improper to do so on a list. Take it off list. Also, 9 times out of 10 you will be proven wrong. Please note: This list is a collaborative effort and will be changed upon valid suggestions. John Tolmachoff IT Manager, Network Engineer RelianceSoft, Inc.
