http://www.ISAserver.org ------------------------------------------------------- the point i was trying to understand is how they enable independent migration and failover of virtual machines in HyperV, given that a limitation of their non clustered file system means that one storage LUN must be dedicated to each virtual machine or else a quick migration will migrate all guests on that LUN and not just the one you want. That and i'd be interested to understand their definition of High Availability as without these requirements this would mean invoking quick motion by way of a failed host. Give the file system limitations mentioned which involves multiple hosts not being able to read and write from the same virtual disk concurrently this will involve a suspend of the machine and a startup on the other host, involving lost packets and downtime. ESX doesnt have this limitation, so its more of a increased availability and not high availability. ________________________________________ From: isalist-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [isalist-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Jim Harrison [Jim@xxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Sunday, 31 August 2008 8:58 AM To: ISA Mailing List Subject: [isalist] Re: Giggles for the day http://www.ISAserver.org ------------------------------------------------------- You'd assume wrong. There is no "active/passive" context for ISA and never has been. The failover would be between Hv hosts if it happens at all. Like I said in the interview; this hasn't been tested specifically. -----Original Message----- From: isalist-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:isalist-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Greg Mulholland Sent: Saturday, August 30, 2008 3:03 PM To: ISA Mailing List Subject: [isalist] Re: Giggles for the day http://www.ISAserver.org ------------------------------------------------------- ahhh! the interview said "quick migration" so i have a question regarding the failover bit. i am assuming that you are talking about isa application failover and not failover of the ISA guest to another HV host (cos we know that just doesnt work in HV i.e quick migration) So, id be interested to know how the shared storage part will work, presumably the CSS will need to be on the shared storage to have a two mirrored ISA guests and setups on separate HV hosts, any other requirements? ________________________________________ From: isalist-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [isalist-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Thomas W Shinder [tshinder@xxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Sunday, 31 August 2008 6:35 AM To: ISA Mailing List Subject: [isalist] Re: Giggles for the day http://www.ISAserver.org ------------------------------------------------------- Excellent!
