I have seen a number of postings recently, including a previous one of mine,
with people reporting that their Firewall Service hangs.
By pure luck, I may have found once possible cause for this - but as yet, no
solution I'm afraid!!!
I was testing a standby ISA Server this morning and wanted to test it live, to
do this I unplugged my two cables going to the live ISA and connected them to
the standby server. The standby server did not work (but that's another
story!) and hence after what could have been no longer than 10 minutes, I
plugged the cables back into the live ISA.
Now it also did not work - the firewall service had appeared to hang! A
restart cured it and all was fine again.
Again, I pulled the cables out - for a shorter period this time - and then
reconnected again. Again the firewall hung.
It appears to me that our ISA doesn't like loosing its network connection and,
if this connection is then restored, ISA appears to ignore it.
Is this possible? Anyone got any ideas for a solution?
