Here is an example of what I mean: http://www.topsight.net/article.php/20050528045739964 -----Original Message----- From: JosephK Sent: Thursday, July 14, 2005 2:17 PM To: [ISAserver.org Discussion List] Subject: [isalist] RE: Firefox is a slow pig http://www.ISAserver.org I always rename the admin accounts. Then I rename the guest account to admin on a local machine! lol. But, with the right tools I can see the sid of 500 meaning that the admin account name has changed. BIT TORRENT is much nicer then KAZAA Teenagers need to be taught how to hack. Yeah, I know that some won't like that statement. But, if they are taught how to hack then they will know that someone knows more then them. Or if they know something you don't have them teach you. I sometimes think that is the best way to learn how to write effective IDS rules. I keep a ZOO all in a separate network where I can play with all the toys a young teenager would use. I've learned a heck of a lot on how to monitor my network. I'm more afraid that a teenager would use the can of air for something other then it's intended use then letting my son and nieces and nephews on the net. I do however monitor the types of sites that they attempt to visit. Teenagers with admin access! Whenever I get asked advice about what might be ailing someone's home computer, one of the first questions I ask is if they have teenagers in the household. No surprise to me, 9 times out of 10 they say yes. I then answer "there is your problem". For some reason, teenagers just seem to "have to have" every little software add-on that they know of. Give them 20 minutes with admin access on a computer here, and I'll find AIM, Yahoo Messenger, and all sorts of similar programs installed on the computer. My personal favorite is Kazaa, what a piece of work that is... If I see the icon for that program on a computer, I'll immediately run a virus check. Just about EVERY time, I'll pull off dozens or more of Trojan horses. Why does it seem that teenagers cannot live without that program? *grumble* </RANT> -----Original Message----- From: Quillman Shawn (RBNA/CSA1) * [mailto:Shawn.Quillman@xxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Thursday, July 14, 2005 10:08 AM To: [ISAserver.org Discussion List] Subject: [isalist] RE: Firefox is a slow pig http://www.ISAserver.org All XP Home. Not that big of an issue in my professional environments because of all of the added security measures I have in place (only a few that have gotten eaten) but you get those people home and all hell breaks loose... Actually, you get these people home letting their teen-agers on the machines and all hell breaks loose. Especially the guys hitting the gaming sites. ----- Robert Bosch Corporation Technical Systems Analyst (RBNA/CSA1) Corporate Sales Reporting Systems 38000 Hills Tech Drive - Farmington Hills, MI 48331 - USA phone: 1 (248) 553-1164 fax: 1 (248) 848-6969 shawn.quillman@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://www.bosch.us -----Original Message----- From: Ball, Dan [mailto:DBall@xxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Thursday, July 14, 2005 12:44 AM To: [ISAserver.org Discussion List] Subject: [isalist] RE: Firefox is a slow pig http://www.ISAserver.org What OS are you running? I have thousands of kids using these computers in ways that would make you pull your hair out watching them. I have only maybe 2-3 computers per year that get messed up to the point where a "rebuild" would be necessary (I just re-image instead). Out of about 1200 computers, that is an extremely low percentage. I remember problems like that with Win98, but WinXP is awfully solid. -----Original Message----- From: Quillman Shawn (RBNA/CSA1) * [mailto:Shawn.Quillman@xxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Wednesday, July 13, 2005 8:23 PM To: [ISAserver.org Discussion List] Subject: [isalist] RE: Firefox is a slow pig http://www.ISAserver.org One sole reason to switch a lot of my folks: No ActiveX support. No BullSh!+ making it in through piss-poor security configurations and eating the machine. 100% of the people I've switched have not touched a Windows disc since while previously I was rebuilding every 6-8 weeks. ----- Robert Bosch Corporation Technical Systems Analyst (RBNA/CSA1) Corporate Sales Reporting Systems 38000 Hills Tech Drive - Farmington Hills, MI 48331 - USA phone: 1 (248) 553-1164 fax: 1 (248) 848-6969 shawn.quillman@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://www.bosch.us ------------------------------------------------------ List Archives: http://www.webelists.com/cgi/lyris.pl?enter=isalist ISA Server Newsletter: http://www.isaserver.org/pages/newsletter.asp ISA Server FAQ: http://www.isaserver.org/pages/larticle.asp?type=FAQ ------------------------------------------------------ Other Internet Software Marketing Sites: World of Windows Networking: http://www.windowsnetworking.com Leading Network Software Directory: http://www.serverfiles.com No.1 Exchange Server Resource Site: http://www.msexchange.org Windows Security Resource Site: http://www.windowsecurity.com/ Network Security Library: http://www.secinf.net/ Windows 2000/NT Fax Solutions: http://www.ntfaxfaq.com ------------------------------------------------------ You are currently subscribed to this ISAserver.org Discussion List as: josephk@xxxxxxxxx To unsubscribe visit http://www.webelists.com/cgi/lyris.pl?enter=isalist Report abuse to listadmin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ------------------------------------------------------ List Archives: http://www.webelists.com/cgi/lyris.pl?enter=isalist ISA Server Newsletter: http://www.isaserver.org/pages/newsletter.asp ISA Server FAQ: http://www.isaserver.org/pages/larticle.asp?type=FAQ ------------------------------------------------------ Other Internet Software Marketing Sites: World of Windows Networking: http://www.windowsnetworking.com Leading Network Software Directory: http://www.serverfiles.com No.1 Exchange Server Resource Site: http://www.msexchange.org Windows Security Resource Site: http://www.windowsecurity.com/ Network Security Library: http://www.secinf.net/ Windows 2000/NT Fax Solutions: http://www.ntfaxfaq.com ------------------------------------------------------ You are currently subscribed to this ISAserver.org Discussion List as: josephk@xxxxxxxxx To unsubscribe visit http://www.webelists.com/cgi/lyris.pl?enter=isalist Report abuse to listadmin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
