Okay, I've spent awhile cleaning up the server, trying to figure out what is going on... No success yet. The ERRORLOG file keeps growing, filling with entries like this (the last ten entries): 2006-02-27 22:22:49.11 spid52 Starting up database 'ISALOG_20060218_WEB_000'. 2006-02-27 22:22:49.23 spid52 Starting up database 'ISALOG_20060219_WEB_000'. 2006-02-27 22:22:49.36 spid52 Starting up database 'ISALOG_20060220_WEB_000'. 2006-02-27 22:22:49.48 spid52 Starting up database 'ISALOG_20060221_WEB_000'. 2006-02-27 22:22:49.59 spid52 Starting up database 'ISALOG_20060222_WEB_000'. 2006-02-27 22:22:49.73 spid52 Starting up database 'ISALOG_20060223_WEB_000'. 2006-02-27 22:22:49.92 spid52 Starting up database 'ISALOG_20060224_WEB_000'. 2006-02-27 22:22:50.16 spid52 Starting up database 'ISALOG_20060225_WEB_000'. 2006-02-27 22:22:50.24 spid52 Starting up database 'ISALOG_20060226_WEB_000'. 2006-02-27 22:22:50.33 spid52 Starting up database 'ISALOG_20060228_WEB_001'. The log files referenced are present (Yes, on another drive), and it appears that the SQL server can see them. I.e., I had it set for 60 days retention, and when I changed it down to 30 days half of the files disappeared. I see no other messages about MSDE errors, just these recurring messages about starting up the database. The entries are not as numerous now that I set it down to 30 days retention, but they are still adding up. -----Original Message----- From: Ball, Dan [mailto:DBall@xxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Monday, February 27, 2006 10:11 AM To: [ISAserver.org Discussion List] Subject: [isalist] RE: FW: ISA Server alert: An error occurred while generating a report summary from the log files http://www.ISAserver.org Not really, the OS and mostly static data is on a mirrored drive C:, while all the SQL data for ISA and SurfControl is on a separate RAID 5 array/drive. From looking at the error logs, it looks like it is writing approximately 111 entries at one minute intervals that go something like this: 2006-02-27 09:52:31.35 spid52 Starting up database 'ISALOG_20060226_WEB_000'. All are very similar, half are WEB, and the other half are FWS, and the date changes, going back to Dec of 2005. Starts once a minute, and runs four about 30 seconds, then starts again the next minute. This explains the size of the log files, I'm assuming those databases cannot be located? -----Original Message----- From: Jim Harrison [mailto:Jim@xxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Monday, February 27, 2006 12:45 AM To: [ISAserver.org Discussion List] Subject: [isalist] RE: FW: ISA Server alert: An error occurred while generating a report summary from the log files http://www.ISAserver.org You've built your ISA with a single partition? Why would you do such a thing? ISA logs everything it sees. This can make for some *intense* disk activity when the server is handling heavy load. Beyond that, basic server performance and stability requirements dictate that you separate your pagefile, OS and application data and logging to separate partitions if not completely separate spindles. *NeverEverEver* risk running out of space on your OS drive. This is major pain just waiting to happen. Servers I build (regardless of purpose): C: = at least 4x physical RAM, but not less than 4GB; holds only static pagefile and occasional temp data D: = at least 3 times the total requirements stated by the OS and applications, for the OS and applications only E: and above = application data and / or logging; size dependent on application requirements Rebuild that bad boy and give it the resources it needs to operate properly. The GB of logs in the errorlog folder indicates that you've been ignoring errors from MSDE. Take a gander at the latest ones to see what MSDE has been trying to tell you. -----Original Message----- From: Ball, Dan [mailto:DBall@xxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Sunday, February 26, 2006 7:42 PM To: [ISAserver.org Discussion List] Subject: [isalist] RE: FW: ISA Server alert: An error occurred while generating a report summary from the log files http://www.ISAserver.org They were stored on the C: drive, which was down to only 50MB of free space. I suppose that was the problem? I cleaned it up a bit, and got 1.5GB of free space now, but was wondering about the C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL$MSFW\LOG folder, there is almost another gig of "ERRORLOG" files in there, do I need to keep these? -----Original Message----- From: Jim Harrison [mailto:Jim@xxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Sunday, February 26, 2006 3:19 PM To: [ISAserver.org Discussion List] Subject: [isalist] RE: FW: ISA Server alert: An error occurred while generating a report summary from the log files http://www.ISAserver.org That error code resolves to "Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service." Where are you publishing the report "to"? Was that resource available when the report was being generated? -----Original Message----- From: Ball, Dan [mailto:DBall@xxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Sunday, February 26, 2006 11:58 AM To: [ISAserver.org Discussion List] Subject: [isalist] FW: ISA Server alert: An error occurred while generating a report summary from the log files http://www.ISAserver.org Got this error message this morning, where do I look up the cause? -----Original Message----- Subject: ISA Server alert: An error occurred while generating a report summary from the log files The report, "Daily", could not be published.
