Thanks, that clears up much.  I am kind of diving into this under pressure
from work with little knowledge of the product having today just ordered two
books but doing a bit of testing on my home network.  Sometimes the bosses
just don't understand - LOL.

It was necesary in Exchange Server 5.5 because you had to bind the ports 25,
110, 119, etc in the Exchange Server machine to the same ports in the
external interface of the MS Proxy server 2.0. It works in ISA Server, but
ISA provides a way to map these ports to the Exchange Server whithout the
need of the wspcfg.ini files. You can do it in
Servers and arrays
     MachineName Array
           Publishing
                Server Publishing Rules

Right Click on Server Publishing Rules and select Secure Mail Server. It
will launch a wizard who will lead you to configure it.
