Yes, but most servers currently up and running at small businesses
aren't part of this day and age. :)

In this day and age of cheap 73gb scsi hard drives, that shouldn't be an
issue...:))

That only helps the 6-30GB requirement for data storage. But it's also
claiming 1GB for the boot partition.

If you've followed some of the other threads on WSUS, there is also an
option to leave all the updates on the Microsoft servers, and have
clients download from there. Might save some space... You can also
choose what products (Like Office, Exchange, SQL, etc...) you want to
update. Really slick program, glad I switched over...

Good to know. I'm going to roll it out in my office next week. The we'll
start installing for clients shortly after that.

Drive space on the system partition is going be an issue with a lot of
my clients though. That 1 GB on the system partition is a ridiculous
requirement.

WSUS does use the same Group Policy templates, so there isn't much
difference there. I have mine set up to wake all the computers at
1:30am, install the updates at 2:00am, then force all of them down at
2:30am.

When you force the installation at a certain time, it used to
automatically reboot the workstations (if necessary), regardless if you
were logged in or not with a five minute notice. However, with the SP2+
version of the update software it behaves a bit differently, in that it
will keep prompting the user every 10 minutes to reboot. I haven't
tested it thoroughly yet though.

Steve,

I haven't loaded WSUS yet, but in SUS you could have it force boot the
workstations after installation. You could also tell it what time to
install the updates. So, if you set the installs to happen automatically
at 7:00pm with a forced reboot, no need to run your script. I would hope
that WSUS has the same features.

Well.......I don't know about that

I use a wmi shutdown / reboot script at a few of my clients as I do most
of my work remotely. It's very handy to be able to reboot 30
workstations from a central point after I have approved the monthly WSUS
updates and the pc's need restarted, You can't always rely on the
clients to do this. Some of my clients would just leave their pc's
logged on for months if they could get away with it.
