Jim,

If answering the same old questions is driving you to drink, then it's
time to take a break. I know you're a list junky when I get more posts
from you in my inbox than from Susan Bradley. Tom's running a close
third. I getting worried about you guys.

Absolutely, positively correct, Tom!
To add to the confusion, it's also a term perpetuated by router admins
that are used to configuring router ACLs (I need to configure an any,
any, all, all rule; how do I do that?).

I recently had to try explaining ISA behavior to a guy who thought that
the %WinDir%\system32\drivers\etc\services file was the definitive list
for IP-based services.

..I have only two rules for alcohol consumption now:
1 - only in groups of one or more
2 - only to excess

Hi Ara,

The Open Port[TM] (Patent Pending) button is a joke. The term "open
port" doesn't mean anything and is a term used by people who don't
understand how TCP/IP works. The term "open port" implies that a
firewall is like a pegboard, where there are "holes" that are "punched"
out, and then "stuff" flows through those holes.

Thanks!

Looks like the Exchange team needs to convince the ISA team to license
my Open Port[TM] (Patent Pending) button:

Chapter 6: Configuring Firewalls:

I'm also thinking of bundling a clue-stick with the button :-)
