RAID5 on what - IDE or SCSI? SATA-II systems offer RAID5 and RAID-6 now, but their performance still sucks the chrome off a trailer hitch. Since: 1. The web cache is essentially throwaway data 2. 64GB+ disks are very nearly free ..there is no real benefit to placing the cache on any RAID disk ________________________________ From: Alexandre Gauthier [mailto:gauthiera@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Friday, February 17, 2006 11:09 AM To: [ISAserver.org Discussion List] Subject: [isalist] RE: Cache Drives http://www.ISAserver.org And just so you know, Raid 5 is usually a bad choice to host Caches... ________________________________ De : Jim Harrison [mailto:Jim@xxxxxxxxxxxx] Envoyé : 17 février 2006 13:54 À : [ISAserver.org Discussion List] Objet : [isalist] RE: Cache Drives http://www.ISAserver.org ..of course, but it's dependent on the strength of your underlying disk subsystem. If your disk is IDE, then keep a smaller cache If your disk is SCSI-160 or better, build a larger cache. You can create multiple partitions on the drive and use each for a separate cache file. ISA will combine the total into a single logical cache storage unit. ________________________________ From: Crawford, Gary [mailto:Gary.Crawford@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Friday, February 17, 2006 7:29 AM To: [ISAserver.org Discussion List] Subject: [isalist] Cache Drives http://www.ISAserver.org I am new to ISA.
