Hmm,
I have just found out that F&*^*& GFI are dropping LANGuard. I hope they are
going to refund our support fees ?
Who makes Chaperone 2k? Where can I download an eval.

What is the name of the Languard Software? At our K-8 school we are using
Chaperone 2000 which has given us no trouble (downloads a blocked site list
weekly).

Not wishing to indulge in a 'A vs B' session (ie linux vs ms which bores me
to death on other lists;)
...one product that seems to have worked for us is 'LANGuard'.
(we are a K12 school).
...the only thing they dont have is a list....you have to build your
own.......but it does check for virses as well.....

BTW
Surf Control is terrible, the interface is horrible and support sounds like
a guy laying in his bed watching TV. "Uhhh, I dont' know....." is an actual
response I got to a problem.

I know this sounds obvious (and pretty distasteful) but I made my list (not
the one that started the original post by):

a) Coming in on a weekend
b) Clearing the ISA logs
c) Surfing every port site I could find - only takes about 10 minutes as
each site seems to open about 50 others(!)
d) Cutting all the addresses out of the ISA log and using them as an exclude
list (I used LANguard to import them from a text file) - dont know if this
is directly possible in ISA ?
e) Telling senior staff what I was doing - so that they dont get the wrong
idea(!)

Every month or so I do the same thing. Seems to work pretty well for us in
getting a reasonable list very quickly and painlessly. Incidentally I
installed the latest Surfcontol on my ISA box and it crashed the web proxy
so I pulled it off again :(

Anyone ever get a copy of the large list of port sites to block that started
this whole discussion? I requested it, but never got a copy...
