Very silly question, but is it not possible to just backup the rules to some kind of file? If I were to do a system state backup, does this do the ISA config aswell? The reason I say this, is the only useful data on the server is config. In my case the server has nothing else on it that I care about losing. I see no reason to backup the OS, ISA etc.etc. Since I can relatively easily re-install these. The machine is not a domain controller. I don't mind losing my reports or my web cache. I'd rather have a backup of the server the size of a floppy disk rather than wasting space on my tapes. Just my two-penneth worth. Hi to all Well this is what I do for the config state of isa I make an backup this file is the key than I make an disater backup that will give me an image of the server and some setting of this server I make a full backup with an reset argive. So than I end up with 4 file's 1 ISO file to create the server 1 DR file with the setting 1 Full backup tape ore image. 1 ISA backup setting en configuration. Jim you may correct me If wrong for this one. After creating the backup config for isa you must make a full backup by default ISA is not allowed to be backed up but in order to make the backup you can restore the server to the state as it was before note1: Manual remove the internet connections cable when doing this. Put in a new disk as exercise Create the cd and DR file on a floppy. Create a second cd with the ISA settings configuration. Ore you have created this on the disk ! The server will be installed, it will ask for the DR file and it will ask for the backup tape. Reboot the server and go to save mode with networking (1) Then restore the reg and the isa server settings. Reboot the server. Isa Is Back in the correct settings. And working. Note (1) very important If using SP2 you must have a iso file with SP2 if not the server installation will fail due to the fact that the server has changed. And if you use more than one disk use the same disks and ore other setting and note them as a part of your backup plan. It is very important to check you backup system regular and to have more than one backup device in your system environment to ensure your system fail over There is more to say about this issue, I hope to give some light on the matter. Decided I needed it back up and running, and it was quicker to recreate it by hand. At least I got the SMTP and WEB working within 10mins, and no-one noticed that everything wasn't as it was before. Which allowed me to recreate everything else under less pressure. I'd love to know how to use them though! I actually had made a change (joined a domain or changed server name or added an ip). I ended up recreating it by hand. Sorry. There have been NO changes to this array...it is on the exact same machine with the exact same service pack (2000 and ISA). Anybody have a way to read the BIF and get the rules out of there? I don't want to create this by hand, but it looks like I have no choice in this matter.
