Authentication & outgoing port number

I've changed the outgoing port from 8080 to 80. Since the change, when I
open a browser I get an authentication prompt. I can just cancel the
prompt and get out on the web but what I really want is to not have the
prompt in the first place. I've changed the connection settings in IE
using Group Policy so that's OK. Any ideas?
