They need nothing more than TS access to the SQL server. You can pass files to & fro via your TS session, effectively obviating any VPN or FTP requirements. ------------------------------------------------------- Jim Harrison MCP(NT4, W2K), A+, Network+, PCG http://isaserver.org/Jim_Harrison/ <http://isaserver.org/Jim_Harrison/> http://isatools.org <http://isatools.org/> Read the help / books / articles! ------------------------------------------------------- ________________________________ From: Ball, Dan [mailto:DBall@xxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Thursday, January 26, 2006 08:34 To: [ISAserver.org Discussion List] Subject: [isalist] Access to internal SQL server. http://www.ISAserver.org We have a program here that requires access to a SQL server hundreds of miles away. Performance was always an issue due to network latency. So, to resolve that, we agreed to host the SQL server locally instead. They want us to set up a server that they can get to, with FTP access, VPN (optional), and Terminal Services. I pretty much put my foot down on them having DBO access on our SQL server, so we'll be running a stand-alone copy on another computer for this. So, would it be best to put the server inside our network, with an extremely limited RDP ability from them to that box, or put it on the perimeter network? ------------------------------------------------------ List Archives: http://www.webelists.com/cgi/lyris.pl?enter=isalist ISA Server Newsletter: http://www.isaserver.org/pages/newsletter.asp ISA Server FAQ: http://www.isaserver.org/pages/larticle.asp?type=FAQ ------------------------------------------------------ Visit TechGenix.com for more information about our other sites: http://www.techgenix.com ------------------------------------------------------ You are currently subscribed to this ISAserver.org Discussion List as: jim@xxxxxxxxxxxx To unsubscribe visit http://www.webelists.com/cgi/lyris.pl?enter=isalist Report abuse to listadmin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx All mail to and from this domain is GFI-scanned.
