In this case I'd create a rule "allow any traffic". Then I'd explain why
it's not best practise to do so. Then I would go and look for another
job with no AOL involved ;)

If I had my way that's what would happen, but unfortunately they
insist on using it.

My best opinion on AOL is get rid of it.

Making sure that port 5190 is open only lets my users log into
AOL; it doesn't let them view any web based content. The first time they
try they get an error message that says a request took longer than
expected. After that AOL doesn't even try, you just get a blank page.
The AOL support people are no help at this point. Their solution is to
disable the firewall. I told them that that was not an acceptable
answer. If they would just tell me which port(s) AOL is attempting to
use at that point I would handle the firewall configuration from there.
Well, I've called twice and got hung up on twice after I explained the
problem. So I'm looking in the logs to try to figure out what AOL is
doing and I'm not seeing it. I see some blocked UDP ports but that's
about it. What exactly should I be looking for and in which log? I'd
like to get to the bottom of this. Then I think I'll call AOL tech
support and tell them that I have the solution but I'll hang up on them
before they can get it from me...
