Hi Peter,

Thanks for the info! The AD stuff is pretty interesting, esp. in the
Exchange 2000 Server context.

        Hi John,

Active Directory is used by Exchange 2000 for all directory
information. The Exchange Global Address lists is stored in Active
Directory. The Global Catalog is used during email address resolution /
email address lookups. When you install Exchange 2000 it extends the
Active Directory schema to include email address and other Exchange
setup info (I.e. alias, mailbox security, forwarding, etc)

                Hi John,

Its seems to be an authentication issue to me, but I'm
allergic to the AD, so you'll have to ask someone who knows more about
that than I do :-)

Why does Outlook go looking for a GC? Is
Exchange 2000 and Outlook set up for Corporate/Workgroup using MAPI
integrating or using LDAP into the AD database? Exchange 2000 is not use
the AD database for the store, or is it? Or does it add something to the
database for indexing messages?

                        Hey everyone,

In ISA Server and Beyond I noted that there was
a problem with Outlook 2000 connecting to Exchange via an RPC publishing
rule after Outlook 2000 was service packed. Turns out that Outlook sends
out a query asking the Exchange Server for a GC name. The RPC publishing
rule really doesn't care for this, and breaks the connection when the
external Outlook client sends the query.
