Hi Bob,
the binding order of the adapters is very important to get DNS resolving
right. Have a look at
http://www.isaserver.org/authors/harrison/tutoials/setting_up_machine_before
_isa_installtion.htm for instructions how todo it.

I have been reading this same article, but it makes no
sense.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, remove the external DNS server
address from the external network adapter, and then change
the binding order on ISA Server so that the internal network
adapter is listed first:
Click Network and Dial-Up connections .
On the Advanced menu, click Advanced Settings to display the
binding order.
Click the internal network adapter, and then move it to the
top. The internal DNS is used to resolve the server name so
that redirection works properly.
The above instructions do not seem to make any sense.
Move what to the top, and where?
